Kite Flying at Marina Barrage was a success! Everyone had fun!

It has been a looong time since I last fly a kite! And I enjoy reliving my childhood days... Haha! :)

Some simple kite flying tips...

1. Find an unobstructed spot to fly

So that your string will not entangle with the neighbours' easily

2. Invest in better kites!

So that they can withstand the strong wind

3. Get string extension (preferably the roller kind)

So that the kites can easily fly higher & further!

Have a good time flying your layang-layang! (kite in Malay lang)

It was a beautiful Wed morning!

After an early rest the night before, I was all ready for work!

Due to the peak hour traffic, Dhoby Ghaut MRT station was very crowded as usual.

As I happily got into the cabin, I felt a kick on my sandal.

Lo and behold...

A guy accidentally kicked my sandal away!

It did not fly and land on the platform. But, before our very eyes, saw it slip through the platform gap and drop into the seemingly "bottomless pit"!!!

Three seconds later, the train door closed.

"O man...!!!" I muttered under my breath, and not wanting to make a scene.

What am I going to do next?

I can't possibly stagger my way to the office!

Think! Think! Think!... Think quick on my feet!

An idea came!

I gracefully bended forward, reached out for my surviving sandal and slipped it gently into my bag.

A while later, the lift door opened....

All right Joanne... 1, 2, 3... Here goes...

I walked nonchalantly... on the cold, hard ground. I walked fast, trying to keep pace with the fast-moving crowd while hoping not to bump into anyone familiar.

Traffic was "sardine-packed" and most people were looking up ahead rather than staring at the ground!

Thank God my black pants was also long enough to conceal my naked feet!

A 3-min walk seems like eternity... I finally reached 7-11 and bought a pair of $2.90 slippers before continuing my journey to the office.

Phew! What a morning!

But I was determined not to let it spoil my day. Thankfully, the day turned out to be a highly productive day one!

For the 1st time, I appreciate the warning signal...

"Please mind the platform gap... Ti Ti Ti Ti..."

"I have never... walked in CBD,

felt the cold ground beneath my feet...

but under noooo choice,

I receive the faith to walk bare-fooooo-ted..."

My Church, My Family!

As I stepped into Jared & Jerb’s place for camp meeting on Sat, the hearty chat among the leaders simply lifted my spirit.

Shing’s encouraging smile gave a boost too!

Shortly, the lot went for lunch while I stayed back to update some changes in the camp program.

It was nice to work in the study room while listening to CHC’s “Reign” album.

Track 6 “Out of My Hands” is especially ministering during the time when I need it the most!

The truth is… My new work as a Personal Banker has been weighing my heart.

Well… Colleagues are nice and the environment is like a family.

The problem is… there are many new financial technicalities and market mechanisms that I need to grasp quickly. I have my helpless moments when customers are right in front of me, asking some product questions but the two-week old me can’t offer that immediate help and my colleagues are all on their hand phones, entertaining to different enquiries from customers!

Having said that, I guess I am my biggest obstacle!

If you do not know, I am quite a perfectionist and demand a lot from myself. To avoid that unnecessary stress... Perhaps, I should just take one step at a time and learn to R~E~L~A~X…

Coming back… When I was touched by the song, Jerb happened to come out from her room and gave a warm & loving “Hi Joanne!”

Caught unaware, I quickly rolled back my tear, hoping that the sharp Jerb will not spot anything. But I doubt so as my sniffle seems to give me away.

I went into the study room and continued with the editing.

A while later, bubbly Amber reached. She popped into the room and let out a chirpy “Hi!” and as usual, almost narrated her day’s happening but decided to change target after catching “DND” signals from me. Hee…

And there was Innocent Jerb in her room, trying to get ready for service when Amber conveniently knocked on closed door (I wouldn't do this… :p), candidly said “Hi” and spontaneously greeted Baby J as well! After which, she went on rattling her “Rapture” story… That’s our Amber!

What about me? In the room with my eyes fixed on the screen, trying to put the pieces together…. What a familiar sight isn’t it? Haha…

Shortly, the group returned from lunch and meeting started with some serious talk from Jared about changes in camp. Not long later… Our discussion deviated to some funny jokes and we gotta discipline ourselves to be back on track once again…

Joker Joseph then arrived and brought the atmosphere to another high with his forever-direct and exaggerating jokes!

See how diverse our personalities are... But yet, one of the strengths in ET zone is our UNITY!

We go through thick & thin together and share our lives like a family!

I like what Pastor Phil Pringle meant… The church is not built on one man or one woman alone but by you and I whose love & unity CEMENT this house together.

Even when the church is going through a rough patch recently, the members continue to unite our hearts, gather in the weekly services, praise and worship God, serve Him & people, out from a GENUINE HEART.

I can’t help but to think of Pastor Kong and the immense pressure he is facing.

All he wants is to love God and add value to people’s lives… but there are many adversaries.

Here is a man who has always been very strict with himself, physically and spiritually. Just take a look at his Before & After physique! And sense his conviction to make up a even a day of fast when he needed to end his long fast earlier.

My heart goes out for my beloved pastor!

If you have seen his toil, you simply can’t bring yourself to utter anything bad about him.

I love Pastor Kong, I love CHC, I love ET zone!

Come join us with an OPEN MIND and you will understand what I mean.

A caution... We are NOT PERFECT people (putting hand on heart). We are just in the progress of learning how to work things out...

My 1st Brother!

Have I told you I have two elder brothers? And I’m the youngest in the family?

My 1st brother is called Keng Chye aka “阿强”.

He is a visually-handicapped person who has been blind since a tender age of three.

We live together but I seldom get to see him during weekdays cos by the time I reach home, he’s already sound asleep.

Saturday is the only day I can spend some quality time with him.

Last Saturday, we went out for lunch.

In the earlier days, I disliked bringing him out.

He always walks BEHIND me… and even when I slow down, he will still walk BEHIND me.

After a while, I become uncomfortable as I need to turn my head 180 degree each time to talk to him.

Once, I snapped “Can you don’t always walk BEHIND me? Walk BESIDE me!”

To please me, he clumsily quickened his footsteps but a minute later, he was behind me again…

I figure out he cannot help it.

He needs to catch a faded image of me in front so as to follow my trail. Otherwise, he is unsure how safe is the unknown territory in front of him.

I have to accept the fact that my brother will not walk beside me.

Do you know he is not angry when I shout at him? Instead, he was pretty apologetic about walking too slowly…

Guilt crept into my heart. I was really rude. There and then, I repented and said a quick sorry to him. But, my kind bro was not even offended in the 1st place.

When I was in my teens, I used to find it awkward to walk together with him because his stiff and unaided movements often draw curious stares from passers-by who will unreservedly scan him and us from top to toe, and TOE TO TOP… I hate that.

As I grow older, I accepted the fact that people naturally look because my brother stands out from the rest.

I must say… God is still fair.

Despite his sight disability, he is blessed with very long legs!

Do you see the drain?

Whenever we meet such drains, I will often be the GPS cautioning…

“ Drain ahead ”

“ Be careful of steps "

He will then SPREAD his long legs and STRIDE across the gap!

My heart oftens miss a BEAT when I see him do that. What if he misses?

Well well… Either God is watching over him, or he is just too skillful. Till date, he has not fallen into any hole. =_=’

Last weekend… I was entrusted with a project to set up bowling booth at S3 Fiesta!

To create that party mood, I decided to use some balloons as decor!

Roped in my brother’s help to sort the colors...

WAIT A MIN Joanne… What did you say? Ask your bro to sort the colors?

YES! Something to be thankful for… my brother can still differentiate colors!

Ta da!!!

Taking a closer look… you would have noticed there are different shades of color!

As such, his perfectionist sis, yours truly, decided to get him FURTHER sort out the colors.

That’s better…

and the next day… these balloons contributed to….

His reward? We had fun trying out the game!!!

I’m really PROUD of my brother- a responsible and easily-contented man- someone who simply has no agenda…

Do you know he does a lot of house chores at home? Ermm………MORE than me, much to my mum’s disgruntlement…

It’s ok… I will gladly let my brother win

Compared to his friends, he is already considered fortunate.

One of his friends can neither see nor hear.

Try closing your eyes and covering your ears…

The cg went for basketball and badminton after service yesterday!

Uncle Star, Aunt Betty and Aunt Irene spontaneously joined us and their hidden talent in badminton were discovered by the cg!!!

To our surprise, Aunt Irene was formerly a school team player!

The trio mentioned they had not touched this sport for 20+ years!

We had a GOOD TIME at the court yesterday!

I really treasure and thank God for such synergy and unity in cg!

It's a heart-warming session, filled with real-life testimonies of many CHC Heroes & Heroines! Simply love Pst. Kong & Sun! They are such exemplary role models of true Christian living and remarkable engineers of the future!

To continue where we left off in the earlier entry...

The subzone had fun at Sentosa last month!
Despite the rainy season, weather on that day was EXTREMELY good, with the sun smiling WARMLY at us! Praise God! We prayed and fasted for it!

-
The event was a success!
I must say... the CGCs did a good job in putting the pieces together!
Kudos to Sel, Yan Ming, Edward, Alicia and Sing Xuan!

The following weekend, I attended a "counselling" workshop at Mecure, JB!

Pst. Derek shared valuable insights abt his counselling experiences. The training was taken to another level with practical demonstrations! A good reminder on the importance of working together with Holy Spirit!

Above all the learning, I had a wonderful time with bubbly Minghui!
I think I know her more after this retreat!

Coming back to SG, it was meetings & preparation for CAMP BELIEVE which finally kick off last week!

We cannot resist the fun and play our own game! Haha!!!)

The next day, the campers gathered for DRAGON BOAT!

We learnt about rowing techniques from the instructor and had a crazy time water fighting when our boats come close to each other! Players ended up happily drenched!!!

On the last day, we had HAT PARTY!

The top 3 cheers were showcased!

I think all eight teams performed well! So proud of them esp. those in the subzone!

The night ended with a "Bdae Celebration By The River" for 5 cg members!

Last Sunday at S3 Fiesta, my subzone and Joseph's set up "Bull's Eye" game booth!

So happy that the game was well-received! :)

Last night, ET zone had our 2nd overnight PM in the year. We had a good time soaking in the presence of God! It was 3plus in the morning when I reached home. Despite the late/ early hour, I was wide-awake after much praying!

For the whole of today, my whole family and I were busy touching up our home and preparing for my brother's wedding tomorrow! So happy & excited for him!

The next few days will be packed with Xmas cg, orphanage visit, ET leaders' Xmas dinner, and candlelight services!

The following week will release the much-awaited Xmas drama, Ginny's ROM at Crowne Plaza and ET leaders' retreat at Malacca!

Two weeks left before the year comes to an end...

Cg Vision

The cg gave me a mega card for my birthday.

Perhaps you may be wondering why is it in the shape of a BUS?

Earlier this year, as I was praying for a cg vision... God flashed an image of a yellow & green DOUBLE-DECKER BUS!

In the bus, members were happily chatting among themselves while I'm in front, holding the mic and entertaining them with games and stories. Jesus, in the driver seat turned his head back and gave the group, a suave and charming wink!

Along the journey, the bus stopped. Some alighted while more boarded! It was getting crowded. Those who originally seated below, ascended to the upper deck and played host to the newcomers.

The next scene came when the bus approached the sea.

The windows started to wind up and the entire bus sanked slowly into the water. The wheels flipped horizontally and propelled the vehicle forward. The whole bus transformed itself to a submarine!

Upon reaching the shore, it began to stretch its metal wings and glide gently above the land!

Cool! I get the idea God! You meant VERSATILITY!

Interestingly, I only articulated the vision twice to my cg.

They actually remembered! And translated the THOUGHT into FORM!

In 2008, when I prayed for a cg vision.

God gave me a vision of a WAVE!

The wave is not just a small and relaxing one...

It is a BIG & GIGANTIC wave!

Standing on the shore, I saw the wave coming!

To my amazement, the wave threw PEOPLE on the shore!

The victims laid flat on the sand wet, tired & hungry!

Seeing this, I shouted for help! Many came out from their attap houses and gave the people dry towel, hot Milo and Oreo biscuits!

After a period of time, the people were well taken care of and began to live a happy life on the land.
-
When life resumed back to normal, a SECOND and BIGGER wave came! This time, it threw MORE people to the shore!

More helpers were needed!

Those who had been helped, rolled up their sleeves and in turn, assisted the new people!
-
I articulated the vision to the cg. They caught my point and ran the race together with me!

Everyone did what they could do best.
-
Selena and Li Jun, for the past ONE & A HALF YEAR, selflessly spent most Saturday afternoons in SMU, coaching the int'l students English. Till date, they produced two batches of 'O' level students so far. The first batch went on to SP and TP. The second batch just finished their 'O' level last Friday.
-
Yan Ming, being the buddy kind, taught the group guitar.
-
Moses, with his calm & composed nature related to them in his 'S' way.
-
Uncle Starrence and Aunt Betty added that fatherly and motherly touch in the cg.
-
The rest just loved one another.
-
While practical needs were met, spiritual needs were ministered, with Bible Studies to deepen the people's understanding of God.
-
To them, the cg is just like a 2nd HOME! A home away from home.

People just kept coming, and COMING!
-
One night, I sat on my kitchen floor, askg "God, what can I do for You?"
-
He just replied with 6 words... "Take care of the China students"
-
Excitedly, I obeyed.
But along the way, the journey has not been smooth.
There were many ups and downs for the past one & a half year.

Many times, the voices of men seem to be louder than God's!

I was left disillusioned and very very confused.
-
I kept re-checking with God... "Did I hear wrongly? Is this what You really want me to do?"
-
When I am focused, I am VERY focused. There is a group of committed people following me. I cannot play with their time. I need to be careful and lead well.
-
God sent me many positive affirmations.
-
Edward has been a great encouragement to me. He made it into the Easter production and through the drama, God showed me his life transformation- From a lost "Ah Beng" to a purpose-driven "Bao Ge"!
-
The group has been coming faithfully for cg and svc. They give their tithes and offerings, and do what they can do- from particpating in usher and attributes ministry to blood donation etc.
-
God asked "Isn't it evident enough Joanne? Do you want to seek men's approval or God's approval?"

I replied, flesh-crucifyingly... "Yours of course!"

At times, I still pop the same question "Is this what You really want me to do?"

God... "Take care of the China students" sounds grammatically incorrect.
-
Silence. I guess He just couldn't bother with me.
-
The 6 words I held on, together with the HARD WORK from cg, saw about 60 salvation decisions made for Christ. Out of which, 20 regulars had been integrated into cg & svc for the past one year plus.

Let the love of God transcend boundaries, cultures and languages.
Let the love of God glue us together as one!

My subzone just finished an outing at Sentosa yesterday and some members would be heading back to China to see their family members after one year of toil for 'O' level.

Before leaving, "take cares" were exchanged... Many came and gave me a big hug saying "我会回来的..."

The cg celebrated my birthday last Fri.

Everyone was on their best behavior.
Praise & Worship was louder than usual. All shared testimony and even echoed "Yes & Amen" during the Word. Wow! So responsive! :)

Anyway, they surprised me with birthday speeches using the acronym "JOANNE".

Never will I expect my own cg to use this trick on me!

Esther's Wedding

The couple confessed their 1st impression of each other.

Their unexpected, out-front honesty left the crowd bursting with laughter! The love story slowly progressed to touching appreciation for each other.

Tag line of the day- "If he is not ugly or destestable... Why not?"

Well... Adrian is far from that!

This man is high in wit and can speak really well!

While Esther is a strong woman, I believe Adrian is a STRONGER man to be able to win her heart! :)

To be frank, I am scared of Esther in the past.

I think she is VERY fierce!

Growing up in the Lord, I remember telling her cg helper Meiling a lot of things instead of confiding to her. But yet, I love her!

I look forward to cell group meeting each week!

Worship is AWEsome and her preaching is POWERFUL!

She made the bible come ALIVE and those WORDS IN SEASON never failed to hit the nail on the head and bring abt change in my heart!

What can I say? ANOINTED!

Other than preaching, discipleship is one of her many fortes!

When I was on my way home from school one day, she called.

Because it was so noisy on the bus, I had to alight at the next bus stop just to listen to her.

At the end of the call, she left me dumbfounded at the bus stop.

That day, I had my 1st painful lesson on FAITHFULNESS.

Welcome to Esther's school of ONION-PEELING! 领教吧!

She will tackle all points, get to the root cause, present the problem straight to your face, leave you nothing to say but admit "defeat" and accept responsibilities to change!

More often than not, one will tear after the onion is peeled...

There are some who cannot handle her discipleship, but those who can, eventually emerged stronger out of it!

Call me masochistic! I love discipleship!

The more she "sorts things out" with me, the more I love her!

To be honest, chastenings r NOT EASY TO BEAR and believe me, "wrongful suffering" can be the unwanted twin at times.

And when that happens... I will turn to God for "sayang"...

Proverbs & 1 Peter 2:18-21 especially brought me through my growing up years!

Gradually, I hv learnt to treasure words of wisdom spoken over my life!

I told myself if I want to learn, I better learn fast!

Life is worth more than to make the same mistakes again and again...

During one the meetings before cg multiplication, Esther went about laying hands on different ones and when she reached me, she knelt down and leaned her head upon mine.

This was the 1st time I felt so close to her...

I felt God's love and HER LOVE. That day, I cried heavily in God's presence!

I could not bear to "part" with this mentor- someone who set a strong Christian foundation in my life! But, I had to move on!

Things I keep in mind...
- Put your hands to the plow and not look back
- Swear to your own hurt and does not change
- Be faithful and do things with a spirit of excellence

Everyone has "SUPERHEROES" in their life and I boldly said...

"She is ONE of mine!"

After the event, I went home to catch a few hours of sleep before heading to Keith & Shermin's wedding at Hort Park! :)

So happy for this couple! They are one of the most GENEROUS & KINDEST people I ever met! :)

Our zone had adults' retreat last weekend!
It was held at Mecure, Johor Bahru.

Bro Ed shared a great word! God's presence was strong & tangible!
A great time spent at the telematch, fishing game and water bomb!
Each team even put up a drama on the finale night!

Overall, it is an EYE-OPENER for me!
When adults play... they can REALLY PLAY; sometimes even WACKIER than youths!

Can't stop laughing when I see playbacks in drama & games...

I was praising the adults for their energy & enthusiasm and a fellow zone member happily commented... "All these playfulness is just suppressed. The people are grateful for a chance to LET IT OUT..." WOAH!

The challenge came from the reading and writing part.

It is like a comprehension.
The candidate is greeted with a densely-populated ("Mi Mi Ma Ma") Chinese passage and is expected to answer various questions.
No time to read + understand the WHOLE passage from TOP to BOTTOM.
3-Step Tip from Examiner! Scan the questions. Pluck out relevant answers. Move off quickly to the next question!
This part is TOUGH; SUCKED a lot of ENERGY from me!

WRITING
To be honest, I have not written a Chinese essay since secondary school days (which is 10+ years ago).
On that day, I just threw ("Hump Tump") what crossed my mind.
I do not even bother to amend my strokes cos I am afraid, in the process, will distort my original memory of how the Chinese character looks like.
By God's grace, I managed to pen something decent in the 500-word essay.

Never had I a day "bombarded" with Chinese for so long!
I must admit, HSK is mentally-straining.
And I thank God for bringing me TO and THRU!

Come to think of it, my past effort to WATCH Chinese news, READ Chinese papers, SPEAK Mandarin & practise WRITING the characters unknowingly reaped some rewards!!!

9Cs in 2009

Goal setting is part of my habit at the start of each year.

I like to do things with VISION & PURPOSE.
"Floating aimlessly" can really GET ON MY NERVES!
During times like this, I will self-correct... stop and think, work out different issues and quickly get back on track again!

Earlier this year, as I was praying for a fresh vision for 2009... a few items came into my mind.
Amusingly, it all started with the letter 'C'!
As I continued praying, more 'C' words kept on pouring like a flood!

It came to a point that I asked God to STOP!
Upon resisting Him, I can sense that He was unhappy.
LO and BEHOLD... He threw another C... CAPACITY!
Okok... I know what You mean God. -_-"

All in all, there are 9Cs that I am focusing on in 2009.
Let me share with you a couple of them...

1. CREATIVITY

I am a STEP-BY-STEP person.

I like order and enjoy working things from A - Z rather than T,P,Z,B,S.
Messisness frustrates me! When dat happens, my C can make me D!
(I know what you are thinking but I am not kidding...)

Creativity is the opposite of routine.
In making a conscious effort to achieve this, I have to keep on forcing + training myself to think of FRESH ideas, NEW solutions and BETTER ways to do the same thing!

2. COMMUNICATION

I don't think I am a person who talks a lot.

Guess the only time you hear me "speak endlessly" is during PREACHING!

About two years ago, I started blogging. Afterwhich, I joined Facebook and Twitter. These are alternative tools of communication which allow me to conveniently share snippets of my life with people and at the same time, stay connected with the rest.

Apart from that, I am constantly working on the verbal aspect too.

Moderately speaking, I have achieved 5/9 Cs.

4 more Cs before the year ends in 4 months time!
Realistically speaking, I am not confident to attain 100% fulfillment of my goals.
But nevertheless, I will give my best shot and not limit my ALMIGHTY God!

Running out of shampoo one day, I decided to replenish my stock at a nearby NTUC.

I picked up Herbal Essences shampoo due to its sweet-smelling scent!

At home, after slapping a pool of it on my head, I regretted my choice.

I suddenly remembered what I see on TV a few months ago...

Unsure whether the result is true...

Not wanting to risk my recently-permed hair to become straight prematurely, I bought a specially-formulated shampoo for permed hair at "Pink Beauty" the next day! Haha...

I think the Heineken commercial is pretty creative as well!

Hong Kong Updates!

Having 4 days of leave to clear by Jul, I was toying between the thought of going Bandung (after reading Jerb's interestg entry) or Hong Kong.

My aunt preferred the latter and coincidentally, it happened to be HKG's summer sale during this period of time! (Another pull factor)

Excited, I checked out Jetstar and bought the air tickets at SGD 220/ pax (inclusive of tax).

A couple of weeks later... Aunt and I were on our way to HKG!

After the plane touched down, we took Airport Express to the heart of the city- Kowloon. The train journey was only 20 mins and the ride was fast and comfortable! :)

We stayed at Eaton (a four-star hotel recommended by my friend Ginny), seizing their "Pay 2 for 3 Nights" promotion at abt SGD 130/ night. Here's our room...

I liked the pool so much that I even went for a swim on the 2nd day...

before gearing up for shopping... and MORE shopping the next few days... Haha!!!

We intended to go there for massage but were put off by the persistence of the sales assistants. Just after two hours, before I could explore other parts of Shenzhen, my aunt wanted to return to Hong Kong... Haiz

Overall, I am quite satisfied with this trip.

Both Aunt and I spent abt SGD 3K on air tickets, hotel, transport, food, and shopping etc.

I bought 7 tops, 3 jackets, 2 cardigans, 2 pairs of shoes, 2 dresses and a pair of jeans... Hee... Could have been more!!!

I will go back again!

My plane touched down Changi Airport around 1:30a.m. yesterday....

During the taxi ride home, I was greeted by the familiar sight of HDB flats, "dancing" trees and ERP gantries (Hee... I laughed at this one)

Nothing beats home!!! :)

I slept at 6, woke up at 8, and set off to work, followed by cg at night...

Gotta catch some sleep now...

I'm excited for the whole trip!

The search for good hotels, planning of itinerary, where to go, what to buy, what to do, what to eat?

The first few days will be spent in HKG before heading north to Shenzhen for a day...

If time permits and my aunt is not tired, I may want to check out Macau too!

I enjoy the freedom to plan rather than conforming to packaged tours...

Ooo... At this moment, I can already "hear" car horns & cantonese conversation. Haha!

Simply love exploring new places! It just delights that adventurous part of me!

E66!

If you are wondering how is the 2nd diagnosis of my E71…

Well… The result is out....! Hp is really beyond repair.

Frustrated with a “CMI” basic hp, I bought a secondhand E66 at $360 to tide me over this waiting period for E72- out in Sep!

Estimating a $100+ loss when I sell E66, I figured out the money is still well-spent!

Using Nokia Content Copier program, my neatly-arranged phonebook + a couple of saved msgs are being restored! HAPPY dat my basic “housekeeping” really pays off! :)

Also, this phone came in time to help me efficiently co-ordinate some usher stuff for decentralized svc last weekend! SMSing & checking of emails while I’m outside is such a BREEZE!

I think Bro Ed did a GREAT job on Sun! He preached with such CONFIDENCE & CLASS to a 1200+ crowd! :) Many decisions were made! Wow! A VICTORIOUS day! :) So happy for him!

Really enjoyed watching the campers in their "KODAK" moments!
Who can forget...

Handphone Trouble

It all started when Aunt accidentally dropped my beloved E71 into a pail of water.

Unsure how long did it remain there, but apparently, it seems to be drowned.

Nokia Repair Centre pronounced the handphone dead after “CPR”. *sigh*

Providing another hope, a hp repair shop at Toa Payoh offered to repair it at $120 if successful or $0 if otherwise. I suspect the guy will mix & match different spare parts together. Having nothing to lose, I decided to take a chance.

Result will be out later this week. Let’s see…

Meanwhile, I feel so INEFFICIENT with lost hp contacts and basic survival on a small-screen (4 words per line) phone, which I need to press “Down” several times to finish reading a SMS!

I am upset over this “misfortune”.

I did not lose just any handphone, but a CAPABLE ASSISTANT to get things done!

Liking it so much, I am thinking of spending $350 to buy the same model. If not, $500 for E75 or $unknown for E72 (to be released by Aug/ Sep)

Whichever way, they burnt unnecessary “holes” in my pocket.

Ooo… I have faithfully tithed, completed BF and never for once, held $$ back. Why this unnecessary financial drain? I rather spend the money on a nice holiday or some helpful gestures than... *Haiz*

During one service a few weeks ago, Pst. Derek reminded us about how bad things can happen to good people too…

Let’s hope the dead handphone can be resurrected so that I can use it to “dong” (last) for a while before changing a new one!

It’s ok. Take it in my stride!

A milestone!

I finished 10km in 1hr & 30mins! :)

It's my 1st time taking part in such a run as similar events e.g. Standard Chartered Marathon usually fall on a Sun morning and they clashed with my svc timing.

As such, tis Adidas Sundown Marathon on a Sat eveng attracted me!

The race started with a bang!
Loud and happening music, together with the crowd's enthusiastic cheering really got the adrenaline pumping!!!

(All participants started with high morale!)

But after running for seeming a long distance, I past by a big signboard which shows "3km".

Huh.. Only 3km? My morale dipped. Nevertheless, I continued running.

At 6km, there was a drink station which supplies 100 Plus and Ice Mountain.
Thirsty, some runners stopped and drank a few cups...only to get "suaned" by the next sign "Run Better than You Drink!" That's quite funny...

Throughout the whole run, I just kept on running, kept on running.

Finally, IT IS FINISHED!!! A sense of achievement!

Probably, I shall try 21km next time or... even a marathon! 42.5km?
If yes, it's at least 6-7 hrs running on the road? Can you imagine? Wow...!!!

Adidas Sundown Marathon' 09

I'm participatg in Adidas Sundown Marathon this Sat at 8:30p.m.!

My friend Winnie asked me along for the 10km women category.

I agreed, out of a kind intention to be there for her.

But after studying the exact route a few days later, I almost wanted to back off.

It is the stretch btw Changi Village to Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal!

I will never forget e ARDUOUS experience where I did night cycling there (click to read), not once but TWICE! And this Sat will be the 3rd time, travelling on the same route!

That stretch is a KILLER (no exaggeration)! It seems like a NEVER-ENDING route.

Cycling, alone took me 1hr and my bum HURTS after that.

I wonder how fast can Bus 11 take me...

2 hrs? 3hrs?

Others count sheeps to pass time... I will count the number of airplanes flying over my head?

And yes... MP3 is definitely a must-have!

Probably, I will then fully appreciate a leader's favourite...

Work has been pretty busy w many added responsibilities- all gotta do w figures n MORE figures! Number crunching n eye straining...

I hv to admit... sometimes, at the end of the day, the last thing I want to do is to open my laptop and look into the screen again.

Looking on the bright side, the new work scope trained me to look more closely on the cause & effect of reporting.

Well... Above work, there are different challenges ahead too! Really gotta JIA YOU!

I finally went for my long-awaited body massage!

The thought had been in my mind for quite a while, and two Saturdays ago, I settled for one after supporting my members at a basketball match.

I went to a shop at the void deck of some flats near GWC.

One hour of full body massage for S$40. Quite a good deal!

The massage was quite ticklish at some points and I was trying very hard not to laugh!
If you see my expression through the hole, you will catch me helplessly squeezing my eyes and pressing my lips to suppress my laughter!

Anyway, the experience was rewarding!

Stiffness gone! My morning stretch regained those “cracking” sound and I can now bend my body forward with my knuckles touching the floor! :)

Hmm... Thought of treating my mum with a massage session during Mother's Day.

But on the actual day, due to time constraint, we only had dinner at “The Green Room Café”, Bishan Park.

It is a tranquil place, surrounded my beautiful greenery. My family & I love it!

Hee... after the food arrived, I sheepishly asked to be excused, quickly left the table to attend a conference call with the cngls, to settle some matters.

Mum gave a look of dismay when I returned. Pacifying her, we joked & talked about other things before going home.

A good time spent!

The next day, my cg visited Chinese Church!

“Chen Meng Qi” was there to sing a few songs and the singer’s mum also shared her testimony on God’s healing in health & relationship!

It was very touching and all of us were moved.

During altar call, one of my members’ mum who came to church for the 1st time, accepted God! *Happy!!!*

After svc, the cg proceeded to 4th floor café which was being transformed to a mini game centre (somewhat like the Open House of New Life Church). Very creative!

There were 7 booths with each giving out points based on players’ performance. With the accumulated points, one can redeem free gifts like CDs, The Body Shop lotions etc.

The friends were reluctant to play initially cos they were a bit worn out after the past three weeks activities on Sun.

But after going, they really enjoyed themselves, with some wanting to linger around to complete all the stations before lunch!!!

Haha… It was a loong day esp when I had only one & a half hr of sleep before svc!

I’m in charge of this station called “Color Power”!

It took me a longer-than-expected time to complete the preparation!

Halfway through, I ran out of glue!

Checking the time, it was already 3a.m.!

Do I really need to go to 7-11 at this hour to buy glue? I "whined" to my mum.

15 minutes later, there was a knock on the door!

My mum appeared with a bowl of hot milky stuff…
Wow! So nice of her to cook soup for me at this EARLY hour?

To my surprise, it was not soup but GLUE!!
My mum actually took the trouble to boil starch! So CREATIVE!

Hmm... On the other hand, I prefer using my favourite slide-on BIC stick than this home-made watery glue, worrying that the liquid would cause unsightly patches on the papers.

But... I guess I had to give in to my perfectionism at this hour... So there I was, using the hot glue to continue my pasting...

I worked from 1a.m. to 7a.m. to plot the game strategy, cut the papers, and paste them on the papers! 20 strips, with 7 colors each. Hard work!!!

On seeing the results, I was very satisfied!

Probably you might be curious on how to play the game…

There are many flexible variations!

Here is a simple one…

Each team has to memorize a 10-color sequence within 15 secs. After which, each player has to step on the correct color sequence while those waiting for their turn are NOT SUPPOSED to watch/ help. The fastest team, with all members successfully memorized the color sequence, WINS!

Dazed by the different colors... the teams saw "rainbow" and took quite a while to complete the game! Phew! Not easy as I think!

We had a good Easter celebration last weekend!

I'm happy that a lot of the members participated in different ways.

Giant Edward plucked up courage to act in Easter drama "The Final Solution". I think he did a GREAT job! His lines touched my heart. Very heart-felt!

Charming Yan Ming acted as prince in CCH drama! I'm waiting for the DVD to be out!

Ariel was helping out in Attributes while Sarah, Joe and Xiao Lu ushered in multiple services!

With concerted effort, the cg brought 30 friends! And many members were watching the Easter drama for the very 1st time! Working hard in ret now...

A few weeks back, I come across an article which struck a chord in my heart. It really encourages and cheers me on!

My Fish Porridge Story...

It all started last year...

Determined to learn cooking from Mum, I began with a simple dish- "Fish Porridge".

Before going any further, I have to tell you about my mum!

She is a MARVELLOUS woman who is also a GREAT cook! While a lot of working mums usually "Ta Pao" (takeaway) dinner home, she is someone who will painstakingly prepares delicious meals for the family, even after a long day's work!

Food is usually spread on the table when I reached home after work. A portion will be kept for me in the event when I come home late.

Her loving gesture leads me feel guilty about the times when I am out with friends and not having dinner at home.

Anyway, back to "Fish Porridge"...

There was a week when I was so crazy about mastering fish porridge that I cooked it almost every alternate day, so as to perfect the skill.

But sad to say, things did not really improve.

Mum made a remark jokingly, "人家是越煮越进步，怎么你是越煮越腿步?" (Why did your cooking deteriorate when it suppose to improve as you go along?) -_-"

Some time later, due to busyness (Ermm... okok... laziness too...), I stopped cooking FP for quite a while.

It was only last Saturday that I picked up it up again.

Refreshing my memory as I saw Mum cooks... at the same time, I was busy coordinating w Selena and David about the subzone Captain's Ball game.

Seeing that, Mum grumbled, "How are you able to learn cooking when you're always on the phone?"

Hee hee...

This afternoon, I cooked fish porridge!

Out of the many past attempts, I am most PLEASED w the result today!

Shared the joy with Mum who said nothing at all, but I can tell she is trying to hide her smile.

Probably she's thinkg... "Finally, my girl can cook a decent dish..." :)

A busy day at work yesterday!

Stepping out from e office, an unexpected RAINBOW greeted me! That really lifted up my spirit! Hee.. I was reminded of a song… ”There is sunshine after the rain…”

It’s amazing how God uses little encouragement like this to cheer us up!

I’m sure this rainbow delighted many others as well!

Anyway, I have just finished a 10-week “Getting Started” BS with the current Wed batch.

Catching a free Wed evening before the next batch begins, I watched “Slumdog Millionaire”! A great show!

I have always like to see a different side of the world & life!

Unsure about your afterthoughts… I come back, especially loving my 1st brother and my parents even more… In fact, they were the 1st few ppl I prayed for during QT.

A loving family makes HEAVEN on earth.

God, I thank YOU for them!

Sea Urchin!!!

Some time back, my friends & I popped by Pasta Café for dinner.

It is a nice restaurant located at the basement of Takashimaya.

From the classy menu, I ordered a 1+1+1 combo set which consists of Lobster Salad + Spaghetti in Uni sauce + Beef Gratin (baked rice with melted cheese crust. All for $22.90+.

The word “UNI” means sea urchin and the server warned that the dish might taste rather fishy.

Curious, I went ahead.

The food arrived shortly… While I was focusing on the Beef Gratin, my friend Sharlyn tried the “talked-about” Spaghetti in Uni sauce, only to return a wrinkled & pathetic look on her face.

Is it really that bad?

My turn to try…

Before putting it into my mouth, I can already smell its PUNGENT “aroma” from a distance!

I nearly wanted to spit it out as soon as the spaghetti met my taste buds. But restraining from doing so, I forced the portion down my throat.

The taste is EXTREMELY fishy and until now, I can still remember this DISTINCTIVE taste in my mouth!

I gave up after TWO bites!

(L- Spag in Uni sauce (seems untouched), R- Beef Gratin (Finished!)

I did a little study about sea urchin and found out that these small, globular spiny sea creatures are pretty popular in Japan and Italy!

In fact, most are carefully harvested to served as a delicacy!

Many others love to eat it FRESH from the sea!

Perhaps, you are wondering… How to eat the sea urchin?

Well… These spiny little balls are cracked open and served belly up.

Next, scrape up these orange, sea-perfumed stuff with a spoon and bite!

My sec friends & I had a night’s out at Teasire Cafe last Sunday!

It is located at E!hub, Downtown East!

The cafe introduces an interesting selection of fanciful drinks and offers a mix of Asian & Western cuisine.

We ordered main courses like Norwegian Salmon Fillet ( I like it!!!), Cray Fish Hor Fun, Black Pepper Chicken and finger food like Potato Wedges, Mushroom Fritters, Fried Chicken Wings, etc.

Tasty food at affordable price in a cosy setting…

We will go back again! :)

I was blown away by the worship leadg class w Bro Poh last Thur!

Before going, my heart was already full of anticipation to CATCH something from this "Miracle Man". (not electricity current but sparks of anointing in worship)

The class began by worshipping God.
Many teared as the music ministers to us…
As the guitar was played on stage, I can feel WAVES of love RIPPLING }}}}} towards me.

In the sharing, Bro Poh poured out a lot of his personal experiences & insights, coupled with a twist of humor... that got us laughing!

Things I learnt…
- “Talent Attracts Talent!”
- “Do not limit God”
- “New things bring new breakthroughs”
- “WMA” vs “MP3” format
- Dun be a “one-time wonder”
- Keep on progressing (e.g. Don Moen is still writing songs, one can try mastering new chords etc.)

He emphasized both skills & spirituality are equally important and he playfully related basic four chord strumming with a “Take Me Home, Country Roads” song. Haha… Oops!

Offering help… he shared a few guitar-playing techniques that easily add “life & variety” to the same song.

I reached home near midnight and before going to bed, I spent some time with God.

Taking out my guitar (which was left on the shelf for weeks…), I began to play "My Life, Your Song" with my limited guitar chords & “cannot-make-out-what-is-it” sound…

Nevermind…

The lyrics spoke LOUDER than the “music”…
What touched me that night was in the line…

"My whole world, Your design...
You're always there... Just right behind... …
My life… is Your song... "

I thought about certain things in my life…
And tears began to well up in my eyes and overflow down the cheeks...
It was a good time soaking in His presence…

Worship was great during cg later in the evening!
I shared with the members about class w Bro Poh n my satisfyg QT…

As we sang... presence of God was strong & tangible!
A while later, I opened my eyes and saw ALL the members (even the 2-weeks “young” ones) outstretch their arms, worship the Lord, engage in the spirit.
It is a BEAUTIFUL sight… *love*

Can't wait for more impartation this coming Thur's iworship 101!!!

One word to sum up... INSPIRED!

After the wedding, I went home to change before gg to Boss' place for CNY gathering!

His 3rd child NADINE!

Throughout the whole evening, Nadine kept kicking her legs in circular motion.

We were wonderg if this was e result of her recent "swimmg lesson".

The crowd played a eating competition, out of which, Xiao Lu (the one in yellow) emerged as the winner!

Back home after steamboat, I received a pleasant surprise!

Little shoes at my door step which means kids at home!!! :) Yeah!!!

CNY' 09

Back to Aranda Country Club for the 2nd time this month!
(Previous round was 2009 countdown w the ET leaders & helpers)

I come from a big extended family consistg of 9个阿姨 & 4个舅舅, each with their spouse, and a total of 32 children.

Ever since many years ago, it has been a family tradition for all relatives to celebrate CNY at CHALET instead of visiting one another's home.
The adults will cook and gamble while the younger ones swim and play games!

Seizing the free time, I will catch up with my relatives (some of whom I meet only like …once a year), chat with the older cousins and play Wii with the kids.

It was hilarious to see the children playing Wii!
They came up with a lot of funny moves and exaggerated actions until I laughed my butt off!

During “Chu Yi” night, I also drove to Selena’s place to have steamboat with the cg!
After steamboat, the crowd headed to K-box and sang karaoke from 11p.m. until 3a.m. the next day!

I borrowed Jing’s Wii home and played Wii sports!

The easiest one is bowling…
All u do is throw.
Scoring is easy because the ball never lands into the gutter.
The challenge- get either a strike or spare!

I was engrossed with all the sports like baseball, boxing, bowling, golf, tennis and kept playing the same game repeatedly in an attempt to set NEW RECORD!!!

Throughout the games, I kept swinging my right arm vigorously until it ached.
It was so bad that I had difficulties brushing my teeth the next morning.

Hee…I tried kidding myself that I have exercised enough and do not need to jog the next morning.

In any case, I woke up, thinking about all the steamboat, pineapple tarts and butter cookies with corn flakes (my favourite!!!) that I have eaten and off I went for a jog, to burn some calories…

The remaining CNY days would be pretty fun with different visitations, a wedding on Sat, followed by dinner at Boss’ place and not to forget… subzone steamboat at “Happy Pay”!

Steamboat generally tastes quite the same but it is the company that makes the difference!

Nokia E71!

I bought Nokia E71 earlier this week!

Main reason for the choice- Excel function.
As some of you know, I am a heavy Excel user. I love to use the program to take notes & settle admin.

Besides Excel, other features that I like...

- Notes
I can punch in random thoughts/ things-to-do etc.

- Dictionary
Available in both English + Chinese! A great help!

- Big Screen
Browsing web pages & checking emails have never been so easy on hp before.

- Fast Internet Connectivity
I can easily log on to my Google, MSN, and Wikipedia while on the go!

However, there are some inconveniences too...
- re-training myself to sms using the mini qwerty keypad.
- transferring my contacts ONE-BY-ONE from SE to the new phone

Reviews point out that the camera function is not that fantastic.
Well... I guess the captured image is not too bad...

A good close of 2008 and a great start of 2009!

The cg met for steamboat at "川一品" Chuan Yi Pin.

The guys can REALLY EAT and each came up w different recipe to BBQ the meat! *YUM YUM*
We enjoyed ourselves over INTERACTIVE food and VERY WARM fellowship!

Here's N351, a commonwealth, made up of people from India, Indonesia, Korea, PRC, Malaysia, and Singapore, gelled by the passion for God and love for one another!

Leaders' Retreat 2008 was at Aranda Country Club!

Indoor games and Amazing Race are FUN!!! We had a great time screaming, bending the rules and throwing water bombs at one another!

After the retreat, the subzone (Jared, Lucas, Minghui & my cg) gathered for an abundant buffet at Sakura Orchard!

Early Spring Cleaning

2009 is coming...

I love to start each year FRESH & NEAT!

To keep my things in order, I have a weekly housekeeping habit, coupled with twice yearly thorough clean up.

However, there are always stuff that I deem as important and cannot bear to throw.

Consequently, those items are found in the cupboard year after year.

This year, I just gotta harden my heart and say...

"Joanne, you REALLY do not need them. THROW!"

And that led to bags and bags of stuff running down the chute...

Since I live on the 6th floor, it was only a brief silence before hearing their helpless, fate-determining "Bong"!

Hee... all the moving here and there, together with climbing up and down of the high stool made up for my Sat morning exercise regime. Ermmm... I think this spring cleaning is even more "SHIONG"!

There was a BIG BAG of them!

I took nearly an hour, to re-read the cards and recollect many wonderful times spent with my friends. Some tickled my funny bone and had me laughing non-stop- a good BREAK in the midst of the sweaty clean up!

One of the most precious cards is this one in year 2000...

IT CHANGED MY LIFE!!!

I found God and tasted His love & goodness.

8 years have passed...

It seemed only yesterday when I met Emily in bus 154 on my way to school.

Back then, I did not understand why she was beaming when I agreed to go for the Xmas celebration.

It did not take me too long to figure out why.

Now, I found myself having the same reaction too.

What impacted me most was Pst. Kong's 1st, 2nd and 3rd SPACE message, Dr. A. R. Bernard's sharing abt how we, Christians can wisely insulate ourselves while engaging culture and not to forget the many, many touching real-life stories featured in the videos!

Venue was at Springdale condo along Upper Bukit Timah Road.

We had a POTLUCK party and pooled in a lot of savory food on the table...

We had a beautiful evening together and it was about 10:15p.m. when we ended.

Nat and her hubby Maxim offered to drive me home.
I politely declined as it was out of the way since they stayed only 5-min drive from Springdale.
Besides, they were not familiar with the roads in Singapore.

However, they insisted so I relent.

They just installed a GPS (Global Positioning System)

in their Subaru Impreza.

While Max was busy punching my address into the system, I mentioned there was no need to since I could direct the way.
But seeing their enthusiasm to play with GPS, I let them go ahead.

To be frank, I was SKEPTICAL about GPS due to unpleasant past experiences.

When I was doing freight-forwarding, I had frequent sales visits with my boss.
Both of us used to ventured into ulu/ unfamiliar places such as Sungei Kadut, Shipyard Road, Tuas View Crescent etc.

We depended on MAPS for help.
My boss would be the driver while I'm his navigator.
We worked pretty well as a TAG TEAM and could easily locate our clients.
(Who says women can't read maps? :p)

Back then, inside my boss' Nissan Ceferio was a built-in GPS.
Ooo... We gave up on it cos it lagged and if we disobeyed the given directions, the system would get a bit disoriented.

Once, we tried using it to locate our client's place at Shipyard Road.
While waiting a long time for the result, my boss casually made a U-turn and found the place himself! Haha!

Scared that Maxim would make unnecessary "detour" to my home, I could not help but offer directions along the way...

Well... each of my initiative was replied by a "D..on't W..orry" in his familiar Russian accent.

I kept getting the same assurance from Maxim during the 15-minute journey!

Tired and not wanting to step on his ego, I shut up. :)

To my amazement, I reached home in a breeze!

A bit expensive but it's quite a good help!

Morning Prayer Meeting

My hp alarm went off at 5a.m. in the morning!

I conveniently pressed the snooze button and went back sleeping.

At 5:30a.m., I decided "I must really wake up now!"

Springing from my bed, I went to the wardrobe and pick up my stuff. In the process, I squatted there dazingly for quite a while, with my eyes closed...

"Ooo... What am I doing?"

Quickly got up on my feet, I came out of the room, greeted by my parents' curious look.

"为什么这么早起?" (Why did you get up so early?)

I am a morning person.

But... Waking up at 5+ a.m. is really very EARLY and NOT EASY, considering I sleep late.

Anyway, my momentum picked up after shower!

Dad bought me a packet of tea out of his usual morning coffeeshop routine.

That delighted me... It's a relief for my sinusitis in a cold morning!

Sipping the tea gratefully, I made my way to meet the members at Outram Park MRT.

Hee... So happy to see each one! Yeah... They really tried!

Ariel and Sarah came as well for the 1st time! Good work guys!

A Visit to the Dentist

When I was studying in primary school, there used to be compulsory periodic dental visits.

Students were usually "summoned" according to their register no.

Since "Toh" is towards the end of the alphabet letters, I am the last few to see the dentist.

Friends who were ahead of me would come back with bad reports on how their tooths were plucked out and how stinky & irkful the blood taste in their mouth.

Those frightening stories never failed to send a shiver down my spine...

I disliked the sound of metallic tools being thrown onto the steel tray, the painful pricking of the needle-end to scrap off food particles, and the unbearable knocking on the bad tooth using the tool. *OUCH!*

The only thing I like- Pressing the water button to refill cup.

It was the only way to take a short break before going back to the torture!

Usually, I will deliberately spend a looooong time rinsing my mouth until the impatient dentist said, "Come back, come back!"

Hee... Those were the days...

Last Friday, bcos my temporary filling has worn thin, I gotta see a dentist again.

I had to continue with the previously left-off root canal treatment, in order to keep the tooth.

To benefit those who are new to root canal treatment, I have come up with a simple diagram to explain the steps...

Step 1: An X-ray is taken
Step 2: An opening is made on the crown of the tooth
Step 3: The pulp (or soft tissue) is removed from the chamber and root canal.
Step 4: After a thorough wash up, the canals are filled with an inert material. At the end, a crown is made to cap + steady the tooth.

In case you are unaware, a tooth consists of a crown and one or more roots.
The roots anchor the tooth in the jawbone.

Within the tooth is the pulp (or soft tissue), there are nerves and blood vessels that nourish the tooth.

My tooth decay was pretty bad that the pulp (or soft tissue) was exposed.
When I eat, food particles will hit the pulp- where the nerves are.
That explains the pain.

To solve the problem + save money, I can simply have the tooth extracted at S$90.

But, there is a side effect- neighbouring teeth will move into the space, which will cause a crooked teeth alignment in the future.

As a result, I opted for Root Canal Treatment to keep the tooth.

During the whole process of the treatment, I experienced some pain despite the anesthesia.

The dentist asked, "How do you feel?"

I could not talk except to flash a pathetic look on my face!

He empathized, "Sensitive tooth is it?"

I gave a weak, "resignated-to-the-fate" nod...

"Ooo.... U feel the pressure...?"

He used all the nice & soothing words except the adjective- "Painful!"

I wanted to protest, but I could not talk!

At one instance, I almost wanted to ask for a pen & paper to scribble... "Be more gentle."

All right, all right... To be fair to the dentist, I admit I have a low threshold of pain to this kind of thing.

Despite the "ordeal", I must say this dentist is calm, confident and professional.
He knows what he is doing.

Compared to my other previous dental visits, he is considered one of the best- Dr. Benny Goh, The Endodontic Office.

Overall, I am happy that the whole treatment is pretty successful.

Just one more follow up visit to fix the crown.

Guess how much is the whole thing?

Root canal treatment : S$900
Crown: S$600
Total... S$1500!

S$1500 for a tiny tooth- hidden somewhere at the back of my mouth!

With one hole mended, I burnt another in my pocket...

Hmm... I rather spend it on the talk of town/ church- Blackberry Bold, or a holiday trip, some carefree shopping and blessing people...

Well... If you gotta spend it, you gotta spend it.

Scan, Pay, Go

I went to Cold Storage, Great World City to grab some groceries some time back.

After picking my items, I quickened my steps to the cashier counter.
WOAH!!! Long queues everywhere!

What's in my left hand? Two apples and a bag of worms!
Definitely not worthwhile to wait sooo long to buy a few things!

Craning my neck, I'm determined to find the shortest lane!

A green board caught my attention... .... Scan, Pay and Go!
Hmm... Sounds good!

Like what the name suggests, I can simply scan the items, make payment using Nets/ Credit Card, and then off I go!

However, this system has some drawbacks...

I bought two apples that did not come with a barcode.
As a result, the assistant had to step in, punch some codes to retrieve price.
After which, she hastily left to attend to another customer.

Coming out from the supermarket, I saw one hand carrying Cold Storage plastic bag while another- an extra bag of worms!

O NOoo!!! I accidentally took another bag of worms w/o paying for it!
Afraid to get into unnecessary trouble, I left the item at a nearby cashier counter.

While walking back to the office, I thought about what happened...
No sensor to detect pilferage? How risky!

By the way, if you are wondering what are these "worms" I bought...

These are candies made in Australia.

It was 1st introduced to me by Jerb about 1-2 years ago...

I am hooked to it since then!

I like to bite it... bit by bit... as if I am eating french fries.

The red-yellow combination is my favourite.

Usually, I will eat all colors and leave the green ones behind cos they are just too sour & zesty! Causes me to squirm!!! Ha ha
